and for those of you who still wonder if Play-by-play can be entertaining, read that piece I wrote about the finals in my league, that just finished 2 days ago:
==============================================
Part 1 of the Finals has been simmed.
here's the story:
GAME 1 (day 157) Sonics @ Celtics
The Celtics break a 11-11 tie to go up 28-15 midway through the 2nd. LJ and Mitch doing most of the damage early. Then GP takes over and brings the Sonics back to within 2 at 33-35. It's a 6pt Celtics lead at the break.
Again it's the green guys coming out hot and after 7 minutes it's a 13pt lead at 58-45. The Sonics fight but have trouble getting it within single digits. 67-59 Celtics after 3 quarters. Midway through the final quarter the Sonics got within 3 but they fail to tie on a couple of possessions. A big steal by Brown and 3pt shot from Mitch put the Celtics up 5, but it stays close as Gill and Cheeks answer with treys, and 2 minutes from time the Sonics are only down 86-88. But Cheeks misses twice, and Dee seals it for the Celtics.
Final Score - Celtics 94, Sonics 88
MVS (most valueable stat): 18 blocked shots from the Celtics

==============================================
GAME 2 (day 158) Sonics @ Celtics
Mitch scores the first points on a 3pt shot, but Shaq and Cheeks give the Sonics a brief lead after a few minutes. The games stays close with the lead changing throughout the first before Dana barros gives the Celtics a 3pt lead at the quarter buzzer. The lead grows to 7 points quickly and behind hot shooting from both teams stays there until 3 minutes before the half when Mike Green puts the Celtics up 60-53. Suddenly the Celtics miss shot after shot and a Payton triple puts the Sonics up 62-60 before Mitch ties it at the halftime buzzer. 62-62.
Three minutes into the 2nd half it's a 3pt Sonics lead at 71-68, before Mitch Richmond gets 8 points and an assist during a 12-2 Celtics run. The Sonics come back within 3, but a couple of misses put the Celtics lead close to double digits at the 3 minute mark. It stay there and the Sonics are down 88-98 after 3.
After 4 minutes in the final quarter the Sonics are within 5 at 98-103, but on the ensuing possessions Cheeks and Gumbley turn it over, Kemp and DC miss shots, and 4 minutes later the difference is 14 again after Barros converts a triple and a floater. This time the Celtics wouldn't look back and the margin wouldn't drop below 10 again.

==============================================
GAME 3 (day 160) Celtics @ Sonics
Back in the friendly confines of Seattle, the Sonics face a must-win situation to avoid going down 0-3 in the series. And not being able to close out the game, with both game 1 and 2 being still close in the 4th quarter, put's some question mark onto John's late game strategy.
Will Gumbley opens the scoring this time and from the beginning this one is a close affair. The teams exchange misses and baskets early on and when two Kemp dunks put the Sonics up 5 at 18-13 and DC fails on a 3pf shot to extend that lead, it takes Mitch, Perovic and Dee exactly 41 seconds to tie the game at 20 apiece. From this moment on, for the rest of the half, neither team leads by more than 2 points and after more than a quarter of constantly changing leads two FTs from Cheeks ensure a 45-44 Sonics halftime lead.
If you think these teams would let up, think again. The battle goes on in the 3rd, and when Carroll scores on a 15ft shot from the top of the key at exactly 4:00 remaining in the quarter, this marks the first time any team leads by more than a shot. It's Celtics 60 - Sonics 56 now. So for the past 22.5 minutes of action we have now watched a more or less tied game. Amazing.
The Celtics lead would reach 6 but a DC jumper and fastbreak layup at the buzzer lead to a score of 66-64 Celtics after 3 quarters. Consecutive baskets by Shaq give the Sonics a 74-67 lead 3 minutes into the 4th, their first slightly bigger lead for almost 10 consecutive quarters now. Bothe teams go cold now, and it needs a Dee Brown threepointer halfway through the 4th to bring the Celtics within 77-74.
Boston misses it's next 5 shots, but 5 points by Dee has them within 2 at 79-81 3 minutes from time. Cheeks gets the Sonics back up 6, but after a Richmond trey it's only 87-86 Sonics 1:01 before the end.
But this time, it's the Sonics finishing the game. Gumbley scores on two FTs and after a Brown missed three that would have tied the game on a short jumper where he got fouled. Game over. Sonics win.
Final Score - Sonics 94, Celtics 88
MVS (most valueable stat): Sonics held Boston to 36.7% shooting
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Player of the Game: PG Dee Brown - Celtics
Sonics Leaders:
Points: Shaquille O'Neal - 22
Rebounds: Shaquille O'Neal - 15
Assists: Maurice Cheeks - 5
Celtics Leaders:
Points: Dee Brown - 30
Rebounds: Kenneth Sturgell - 10
Assists: Dee Brown - 9
BOX SCORE - PLAY-BY-PLAY
Celtics lead the series 2-1. next up: game 4 in Seattle
