btw, guys, if the deal goes through, I don't have a problem with that. If the commissioner acceps the reasoning i don't see why a deal should be upheld just for (heavily) favouring a team. Many deals do. And we don't have to like any deals (like we hardly ever do with Joe's deals). That's life guys, be there at the right time or miss out on the grand prize. agreed. and i understand that we need to protect the integrity of the league and everything. but maybe we need to fix the rules a little bit. of course this goes back to we can't tell GMs how to run their team. but when a new guy takes over a team that can contend for a title and trades away his best player, a PF/C, for two small forwards and he's second best player is alreayd a small forward, it screws up things IMO. i would like to here what Lakers has to say about this trade more. does he really think that he didn't give up much. does he know who Elton Brand is? has he looked over all the league roster pages? has he looked at the last draft class, the best class ever maybe, and seen the low ratings guys come into the league with? does he know his team is 7-2 and in first place? does he know where i put my car keys when i got home last night? will he pay my $50 ticket because i couldn't find my keys to move my car? all of this questions need to be answered.

Learning from the Jones deal improved my GMing skills to an extent. We all make mistakes on our path to excellence. You gotta learn how to do something, before you get good at it. Nobody when they started could make a team like Joe can, but from experience and knowing how shit works, it all comes together. the Jones trade was completely different. this guy had been in the league for less than a day before he traded away one of the best big men in the league. you had been here a couple seasons already. and there is no way you can compare Jones to Brand. this isn't Dan's fault by any means. this is about someone coming into the league and trading one of the best players before they understand the value of players. the fact that Lakers says "i don't lose much and what i lose i make up for in the draft pick" suggests that he has no clue how good Brand is and how shitty draft picks really are in this league. players don't come into this leauge with B+ B+ B B+ B ratings. part of the problem might be that the NBA Marion and Howard are very publicized players, at least more so than Brand, because they've spend most of their careers on contending teams while Brand has been stuck on the Clippers and Bulls. so if Lakers didn't know that Brand is better than those two players in real life, okay. but all he had to do is look at Brand's ratings and his stats compared to other players in the league to realize that Brand is one of the best players in the LBA. i don't think this is highway robbery on Dan's part. but in no way is this a good deal on the Lakers part. Knicks win by a lot. of course everyone is just mad that Knicks got to pull of a deal like this first. should the one-week rule be put in effect: that's not up for me to decide. but its not as if Dan recruited this guy personally and then pulled off this trade. Yeah, there are some notable differences. But their similar in a way.

the only way they are similar sonics is one team "won" and another team "lost" which happens a lot.
in our recent trade, you probably "won" and I "lost", but the significance of our trade is ten times less than this.

for the record, im still waiting to hear from the Lakers, have talked with Dan and will continue dialogue with him. I appreciate everyone's opinion but I'll decide what happens based upon the rule intact and why it was intended.
Thanks again for everyone's service

yea marion is not much, josh howard is unproven and for the lakers to be aloud to mess up a potential championship team by giving up brand is horrible, but really good for the knicks

After talking with the Lakers, this deal is going to be denied. Dan did not try and rip him off or anything like that but the Lakers really didn't know the value of things in this league. He was mostly interested in the first which he didn't realize in this league isn't very valuable as a late pick. I think he will be a good gm but needs to learn things for awhile. Dan i'm sorry, i know you won't be happy, but talking with Lakers really confirmed that this woudlnt' be a good thing at all. Hopefully you guys can work something out.

This sucks for Dan, but it's a good call.
And I'm happy with it ... despite having the Lakers 1st this year. But idc if that just dropped out of the top 20 again, it's better for the league now.
