a sigh of relief from the rest of the world, too.
And while he won't be another Al Gore (safe to assume 9/11 would have never happened if not for the bullshit supreme court decision in Florida, back in 2000) the world will become a better - and safer - place again !
Thanks, guys ...

i voted for Sir Charles Barkley. the movement is growing. But the world won't be safe until we get rid of that stupid rule where you have to be born in the U.S. to be president. Then Arnold can run.

"The biggest challenges are threefold: one is going to be dealing with the economic meltdown, which I don't think they're going to be able to do. You can't use the same people that caused it to deal with it. So it'll continue with band-aids until it really brings the whole crushing defeat of capitalism. Even before the meltdown we were in a catastrophic economic situation where all the things that they were promising could not be met and they still promise tax cuts and all the rest of it. It's unbelievable.
Second has to do with the decline of American economic and political hegemony: how are we going to handle that psychologically as a populus? When you're going downhill it begins to affect your ego. The American people think they're the greatest people in the world; well they're not. How are they going to handle our decline with Obama as our president? We're going to admire ourselves because it's all about identity politics. So Hillary [Clinton] has proven that a woman can rise. Obama has proven that—not a black person but a biracial person can rise—but so what? It’s the success of an individual and tells us something about the maturity of the American people, but what about the maturity of the policies that affect the American people? We've proven nothing on that score.
Third, is the cleaning up the environment and the ability to redirect the economy of the nation to that end. If we buy into American imperialism we can't redirect the economy to solve our domestic needs, which are education, health care, building infrastructure, and cleaning up the environment. What we should be doing is turning around and building five million windmills and solar power plants in a five-year crash program. That will create an unbelievable amount of jobs. We don't have to worry about bailing out the banks. Screw the banks. Just set up a process where people can finance building windmills and solar power plants across this country and let the ordinary citizen hold these windmills, not the wealthy people. It could be done. It's a simple process of letting the profits of capital pay for the cost of capital and then the end product is letting the people be the owners of capital. The way it is right now with our system it's the wealthy owning the capital and the people have nothing but wages. When the crunch comes, they're left unemployed."
-Mike Gravel
I've never seen the main problems of this nations more eloquently summed up. Why other people can't see it, I have no idea. Maybe I'm the only one with eyes....
The last chance the United States had to continue to be a world economic power was in 1992 with Ross Perot. Now, the United States is screwed. Ross Perot basically confirmed this at his recently released perotcharts.com, whereas previously he was very optomistic about the future of the United States. Will Obama do anything to improve the situation? With all of the lobbyists who funded his presidential campaign supporting him? No. Obama is nothing more than a puppet. I don't care if he's white, black, or green. He's John Kerry 2.0, Al Gore 2.0, Walter Mondale 2.0, whatever. As the economy collapses during his term, he'll be hastily replaced....by a good old boy conservative. Palin 2012, anyone? Huckabee 2012, anyone? It's more of a reality and closer than you think. Say goodbye to the economic power you once knew, and hello to the collapse of Rome. Lets just hope....hope of all hopes....that it doesn't involve a war.

Not that it matters, but you don't go around saying like omg John McCain is 95% white just because he may have had a black relative at some point, if you look black you are labeled black, if you look white you are labeled white, it has absolutely nothing to do with who your lineage but with the color of your skin, but again it really absolutely does not matter.

This election turned into Race compitition. People say I'm so proud of America and the choice they made with electing a Black President. Which to me basically sounds like they are saying the majority of Amercian's where irresponsible prejudice ass-holes to begin with. His dad is black and his Mom is white, how in the hell does that make black if you take the two colors in paint form and mix them they make gray.
If a black man and white women get married, or a black women and white man they say it's an inter-racial couple. However, when it's a government figure, sports icon, ETC it's Socially proclaimed an African American or Black person.
Which leads me to believe that Race in all aspect is still a huge issue in this country. Why can't they just be people. I've heard white people say they weren't voting for Obama cause he's black, and then I've hear black people say they were only voting for Obama cause he's black. Neither know what issues they supported or even cared as long as their color won.

I am happy to see that Democrats are in the White House again. I know that if you look back at the past 8 yrs now the Republicans were the party in power and along with that the congress was republician ran at least until the past 2 yrs. When the Clinton presidency was there I never had a problem with money being in my pocket.
Well everyone thinks a tax cut is to 95% of americans is spreading the wealth well I believe the important detail is working americans. I've listened to friends and people I work with saying oh democrats are socialists or they are all for hand outs. Well to me I can't believe that those same people are actually thinking we should do 4 more yrs the same as the past 8 which we've seen hasn't worked at all.
Enough of me ranting.
Congrats Obama.

People are not color, two people who would generally be considered white can have a white baby and vice versa. White or black is simply used to described the color of a persons skin, since for some reason people are obsessed with labeling someone either white or black, I would be inclined to consider his skin color black, although I really couldn't care less.
I would say the majority of people in the U.S. did not see it as a contest of race. I projected Obama would win the election after the first Super-Tuesday in the primary election, even though he was still loosing to Hillary. Why? Because he is young, he is a charismatic speaker, and most young people love him, which in turn means the media loves him. Those are the reasons he won, not race.
I do agree with you though that the term African American is absurd, white people don't refer to themselves as European Americans, and if we go back far enough we all come from either Asia or Africa depending on what theory you believe.

Someone tell me Cavs aren't serious. Now I did like Clinton too, but he rode the Coat tails of Regan and Bush Seniors economic plans. It was Clintons terms where the country started going into the beginning of a resession. Bush's infinite wisdom new this, but still declared war on two countries.
The only way to get a country out of resession is to raise taxes or cut excess spending. What's the biggest cost to the country right now, The war. So how do you stop more spending on the war? Well you can't take away funding for equipment, that's how you win the war. You can't go back on your word to the hosting nations and UN, and not provide aid or help rebuild. So how do you cut the excess. You do away with the raise for military.
At least with McCain's economical plan it benefited us the lower middle class population.

Are you serious McCain's economical plan benefited us the lower middle class population???
Well I have to say that is the farthest thing from the truth. If it was true then why has the middle class struggled so much while the oil companies and the ceo's and what not kept getting richer?
Also if you want to think that Clinton rode the coat tails of Regan and Bush Seniors economic plans oh lord you've got to be kidding me. If he rode the Bush seniors economic plan we would have been a hell of a lot worse than we are even today. We believed in giving constantly to foreign countries and that was his economic plan.

McCain wanted to give tax breaks to larger corporations and not to the average tax payer, which by it's self sounds crappy. However, it's the ripple effect that benefits us, not the direct bill passed or tax break.
I'm not saying your ignorant, , but if someone else reading this post doesn't understand then I'll trying to explain it.
3 years ago you could buy a packet of Raman noodles for 13cents. As oil prices increased, taxes roses because of the war and national debt, it hit these big companies hard. So to increase their profit, they move all their factories to foreign countries.
Now because of these moves 100s of thousands of American workers get laid off. Unemployment rises, and hurts the economy. By this time Oil prices are sky rocketing, so it's cost them even more to get these products from foreign countries to their distributes here in the states, therefore they increase the price of the product. In-return the distributer (stores) increase their prices on the product to cover: Their cost, their shipping and handling, their transit fees, ETC. So now the packet of noodles that cost you 13cents a piece are now 27cents.
Which is a 101% increase and on top of that you still pay a tax.
McCain was offering a tax break to these big businesses to bring their factories back to the states. This will provide 100s of thousands of jobs, cost of transit will basically be nothing, and end result will cause product price to decrease; and on top of that if the businesses would improve their waste and try to be more Eco-friendly they would get another break.
So if you buy 100 packs of Raman noodles every two months at 27cents that's $27 dollars every two months and $162 a year. From the previous price of 13cents being $13 dollars every two months and $78 dollars a year.
Now just imagine this ripple effect with all consumer products that are now developed over-seas.
Obama was going to give tax breaks to the ones who need it the average tax payer right. Well unless your spending over $150,000 dollars a year or more, how are we going to see that.
How is the family that falls under the poverty tax going to see those tax breaks, how is the section 8 single mother going to see it, how's the elderly who are already being taxed to death going to see a significant improvement.
Their not and why because tax breaks for the average American are theories that never work, we simple don't make enough money. So they hand out these stimulus checks to boost the economy that in-result increases the national debt, but if you lower prices on goods and services at least everyone can enjoy the benefits of that, not just the above average or wealthy.
I didn't like McCain plan 100%, but it was a hell of a lot better then Obama's for you average joe.
Oh yeah, my under is in Government and Economics

Well I can't see how any Republicans have looked out for the common person. They seem to be someone who looks out for big business. I can't believe that McCain would be anything different than what Bush was when he voted with Bush over 90% of the time. And I hope that people realize that even though I believe Obama is the better person to be president than McCain was, but all the same they both have a lot of things needed to be corrected by in my opinion the worst president of my lifetime.
Well I don't have a major in government or economics, but I do think we've focused to much on trickle down economics and not building from the bottom up with is how you build a sturdy economic foundation. If the people who help to make the wealth for the Ceo's who should feel proud of themselves and recieve something like a bonus without that people don't want to work hard. It is something that I call positive reinforcment and I know that if you give your workers something to strive for and they achieve it then you give them something to show they are doing a great job, not just pocket it for yourself and make yourself look good.

I hear what your saying Cavs, but in all honestly there is no way to build an economy from the bottom up. It sounds good and makes a hell of a speech, but there is in all actuality anyway to do it.
With our major buisnesses moving production over-seas, how we depend on foreign oil, Social influence on the market, ETC.
The reason I voted McCain over Obama is because of the things he didn't say. If being president was easy everyone would do it.
How soon do you think we can get out of this resession, do you honestly think as soon as Obama said. If so how are we going to decrease our national debt that fast, there is only one way increase taxes majorly. Who does increased taxes hurt the most, not the wealthy. They'll just pay less in at the end of the year.
The reason Obama was called a socialist was because he said what he thought the people of America wanted to hear. It's easy to say we are going to withdrawl 175,000 troops by December of 09. Why, because what falls in December, Christmas. What does the soldiers family think, Oh mommy or daddy will be home for Christmas. Now he's sending a false since of hope, but it grabbed the hearts of lonely spouses.
I mean we just handed the presidence over to a canidate got the nod to run 1 month after getting into his current office. No back ground on foreign policy, no military standards of procedure, nothing proven.
At least McCain is a proven leader. Not to mention a damn American Military Hero.
You know a little about the NBA and Basketball, I can tell from being in here. What if a real owner came to you and said: Here take my franchise, you'll be the GM and make the decisions you'll have these advisors (who know more cause they've been doing this a hell of a lot longer than 1 month) to help you.
You'd be lost cause you really don't know how to run an actual basketball franchise. You'd have to take the word of your advisors, cause there maybe a time where your not experienced to know any better.
Now there are two out comes that can come from this, you do really well and get praise from everyone and the owner, or your franchise sucks and he regrets giving you the opportunity.
Can you see this happening in the real world. This turned into a major race issue on the common American level. You can say no it didn't, but your lieing to yourself. Now what happens if Obama can't live up to his promises or plans. People or going to ridicule him to no end and in the end, not to everyone but to a lot it will become another race issue.
I've already heard people make comments like: well if he messes up, it'll be a long time before another black man get nominated again if ever.
And this will be an injust. I think Colen Powell would have made a great presidential candidate or Eric Shinseki over Obama.
